Gilmore Girls Event at Sisu Café Braunschweig: Coffee, Books and One Catch

Autumn is simply the best season there is for us. When two of our absolute favourite things come together - good cafés and the series Gilmore Girls* - that sets the plan for an outing. Last October we left the caravan behind and drove to Braunschweig for a quick day trip by car. The Sisu Café had organised a “Stars Hollow Fall Special” there, and we simply had to see it.

Autumn vibes and pure Stars Hollow feeling

It already got off to a good start in front of the door: pumpkins, autumn leaves and signs for “Luke’s Diner” and “Stars Hollow” catapulted you straight into the series. Inside, everything was decorated extremely cosily and autumnally in orange and earthy tones.

But Sisu isn’t just an ordinary café - it’s a combination of coffee bar and bookshop. Shelves full of books line the walls everywhere, there are cosy cushions and even spots right by the window where you can curl up with a book. You can buy reading material on the spot, or pick up accessories like cool bookmarks, stickers and notepads.

We found the wall decor especially cool: some of the walls are papered with real book pages. On one wall, envelopes were hung on the pages, from which you could take little cards with words like “love”, “courage”, “a break” or “a hug” - depending on what you needed at that moment. A really lovely idea.

The event menu featured specials like the “Dragonfly Inn Matcha” or the “Gilmore Punch”. We kept it classic and ordered a coffee, a latte macchiato and two slices of cake. Everything was served on sweet plates.

Flavour-wise, everything was absolutely first-class and super delicious.

The catch: why we ended up having to move on

However cosy and lovely the café is furnished, there was unfortunately one downer for us. We love using café visits to work from there and write content for Wohnwagentraum. At Sisu Café, however, there’s an absolute laptop ban. That’s even stated outside on the window - and it’s clearly announced on their website too.

For a relaxed reading afternoon, the concept is brilliant, but for working it’s unfortunately unsuitable for us. After the cake was polished off, we left quite early and looked for another café where we were allowed to open our laptops. A visit is definitely worth it for the atmosphere - but only for pure switch-off time.

Coffee bar and bookshop under one roof - browse, read, drink coffee. Pretty chill. Right on the window it’s announced - and it says the same online: laptops are not welcome. So not really suitable for working.
