Café Katzenwald in Wolfenbüttel: Working with Cuddle Guarantee
This time we picked a very special destination for a car trip, one that had been on our wishlist for a long time: the Café Katzenwald in Wolfenbüttel. After we couldn’t use our laptops at the Sisu book café, we didn’t have to think twice about where to go - we wanted to work and switch off here. Since we had cats ourselves for years and miss them dearly, the visit felt like real balm for the soul.
Double security and a paradise for velvet paws
You notice it the moment you step in: everything here is designed around the animals’ wellbeing. You pass through an airlock with two doors - a double safeguard so that none of the cats accidentally darts out onto the shopping street.
Inside, the café is beautiful and designed to feel super close to nature: shades of green, lots of plants and, as the visual highlight, a huge tree on the wall complete with hanging plant lamps. Everywhere there are scratching posts, climbing walls, cosy forest-green velvet armchairs and even rope bridges right under the ceiling for the fur noses to clamber around on.
If the cats ever have too much, they have a completely separate retreat that you as guests can’t enter. Most of them, however, are totally friendly: they just come up to you on the bench or the chair and let themselves be petted.
Our absolute tip: on site you can buy little cat treats. They’ll even eat them straight from the flat of your hand, completely tame. That instantly makes you the absolute favourite human in the room - and the fun is guaranteed!
Relaxed working and heavenly calm
We actually spent several hours at our table. Fitting the forest theme, even the table number was branded onto a real tree slice. For hunger in between, there were hot drinks, a tasty latte macchiato and a portion of fries.
The best part for us: unlike our last outing, here we could open our laptops completely without any hassle and work on content for Wohnwagentraum together.
Sure, you’ll get charmingly distracted every now and then when a cat wants to sprawl across your keyboard - or the absolute classic: it parks itself directly on your discarded jacket. But that’s exactly what makes it great. The whole atmosphere there is unbelievably soothing for the nerves. You do, of course, have to be fine with fur floating around or a cat sniffing at the table while you eat.
For us it was the perfect mix of being productive and switching off. We’d gladly come back!
