Grilled Salmon on Orange - Perfect for Social Evenings

Prep: 10 minutes Cook: 30 minutes Total: 40 minutes Serves: 6

Marinated, extra-tender grilled salmon fillet. Perfect for relaxed evenings, whether on the road or at home.

Ingredients

  • 3 oranges
  • 2 tablespoons oil (for the grill grate)
  • 4 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 4 teaspoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 teaspoon runny honey
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1.5 kg salmon fillet (whole piece, skin on)

Instructions

  1. Wash the oranges and slice them.
  2. Brush the grill grate with oil. Preheat the grill.
  3. For the marinade, mix all ingredients until well combined. The marinade should be fairly thick. If it’s too thin, add a bit more hoisin sauce or honey.
  4. Arrange the orange slices on the grill. Place the salmon on top, skin side down. Brush with the marinade and close the lid.
  5. Cook over medium heat for about 30 minutes (for a 1.5 kg piece). When white albumin beads appear on top of the salmon, it’s likely done. Taste a small piece from the edge to confirm.
  6. To hold, keep the salmon warm with the lid closed and the heat at its lowest setting, or turn off the grill completely.

Tips

  • Make sure your grill has a lid; this is important for cooking the salmon properly.
  • The orange slices give the salmon a subtle flavour and help prevent sticking.
  • This dish is perfect for summer barbecue evenings (even without a caravan).
